Chapter 5
SUMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter presents the summary that is undertaken, the conclusions drawn, and the recommendations made as a by-product of this study.
Summary Findings
The salient findings of the study that the researchers found are:
- The perception identified by the students concerning sexual harassment are relevantly occurring and happening anywhere, sexual harassment is traumatizing and abusive by being sexually forced or objectified.
- The challenges encountered by the students in reacting to other people and to the situation that had happened includes having difficulty in trusting others due to constant fear, being consistently quiet and alone and don’t usually interact with other people.
- The reasons identified by the students for the occurrence of sexual harassment are: Men are unable to control their lust and parent’s way of molding and raising a child’s character.
- To address sexual harassment properly. Suggestions are given as students at a young age should be guided by parents and taught of consent and respect to educate them about sexual harassment and how to prevent them.
Conclusion
Preventing and effectively addressing sexual harassment of women is a significant challenge, but we are optimistic that academic institutions can meet that challenge- if they demonstrate the will to do so. This is because the research shows what will work to prevent sexual harassment and its effect in emotional intelligence of the women. Changing the current culture and climate requires addressing all forms of sexual harassment, not just the most egregious cases; moving beyond legal compliance; supporting targets when they come forward; improving transparency and accountability. However, to succeed in making these changes, all members of our nation’s college campuses-students, faculty, staff, and administrators- will need to assume responsibility for promoting a civil and respectful environment. It is everyone’s responsibility to stop sexual harassment.
Recommendation
Based on the results on the study the following recommendations are formulated:
Female students who experience sexual harassment. Female students who experience sexual harassment should have the courage to be able to speak about their experiences and to be able to tell those who are close to them about how they feel about this topic.
Teachers. Teachers should raise awareness and hold seminars with this kind of topic more often. Teachers should be able to guide those who experience sexual harassment in school and give disciplinary actions to those who exercise sexual harassment
Parents. Parents should educate their children about consent and respect so they would not be potential predators. Children should learn the meaning of the word “no” at a young age. Parents should be open about this topic to their children and be understanding about the situation.
Future Researchers. Future researchers should invest in qualitative researches concerning sexual harassment to further prove the need for awareness of the public in topics shrouded in controversy and stigma.
